Nostalgia kicked in last month.

It’s the first time in 6 years that Gossip Girl won’t be on air for another season – the finale was bittersweet, to say the least, but the couture clothing will unarguably be memorable and unmatched.

The high society charm of the Upper East Side and posh wardrobe of its actors drove my infatuation with one leggy-blonde. Serena Van der Woodsen, played by Blake Lively, was truly the unattainable ideal of the show – and with good reason: her style.

Admittedly, Emmy award-winning costume designer Eric Daman takes full responsibility for the genius couture dressing of the Gossip Girl cast, as well as Carrie Bradshaw on Sex in the City.

Blake Lively, however, embodies more than a TV role – from accessories to hair she makes all the right calls. Whether flaunting her long limbs in elegant formal wear or everyday streetstyle, Lively shows a diversification of personal style that won’t be stagnating anytime soon.

Just last month, fashion powerhouse Anna Wintour was snapped sharing a laugh with Lively. Lively, who sported sleek straight tresses and an even sleeker leather Gucci dress, was sitting front row with the renowned Vogue editor in chief.

Her Gossip Girl days may be over, but her foray into film and continuing fashion ventures hint that this styling star will be captivating us for the long run.

She’s one of the few celebrities that don’t have a personal stylist, and that speaks volumes about her individual style.

Lively is all legs, and she knows how to flaunt her best assets. Her glamorous dresses, sometimes with sensuously short hemlines and fitted bodices, elevate any star-studded event. She proves she’s one to play with colours and textures, and she’s not afraid to go bold with red or with sheer drapey fabrics. Her association with Karl Lagerfield, Anna Wintour and Christian Louboutin also speaks of her seeming foray into the fashion world. Her sunny positive attitude and humility, despite the fact that she has represented major fashion houses such as Chanel and Gucci, leaves me in awe every time I watch her interviews.

Black and white movies, over TV, serve as her childhood fashion influence, where Katharine Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn, Jean Seberg, Grace Kelly – and even Sienna Miller – all serve as fashion icons for Lively. Lively’s fashion fluidity picks up on the menswear-inspired style of Katharine and classic feminine look of Audrey.

The vintage inspiration of classic by-gone stars seems like a fitting fashion influence for a girl that exudes maturity beyond her age. Best of all is the very imitability and practicality of her everyday streetstyle outfits. She can rock a casual blazer and dress shirt in an all-American Raulph Lauren fashion – but she can also offset that style with outfits that channel a playful bohemian vibe and chunky necklaces to match.

I may be nostalgic for the old Serena Van der Woodsen days, but I’m more excited to see the ways in which Lively’s style will continue to evolve and awe a loyal Gossip Girl following.
