The Queen’s Journal

Itching for a creative outlet? The Journal is entirely student-run, and contributors have always been an important part of that. We’d love to have you!

Want to get in touch? Email journal_editors@ams.queensu.ca(link sends e-mail).

If you’ve got a clearer sense of what you want to do, each section has its own Facebook group where editors post articles that are up for grabs. Feel free to join any of them:

FAQ

1. How do I get started?

Our News, Opinions, Arts, Sports, Lifestyle and Visual teams are always looking for new perspectives. If there’s a specific section you’re looking to contribute to, just get in touch with the head editors by email. If you don’t have a story idea or you’re unsure of which section you want to join, don’t sweat it. Email our Editor in Chief Meredith or our Managing Editor Iain at journal_editors@ams.queensu.ca(link sends e-mail) and they can answer your questions. You are also always welcome to drop by the Journal House at 190 University Ave. during office hours posted on the door and talk to staff or the head editors.

Also, be sure to check out our Writer’s Handbook for tips.

2. Do I need experience?

Nope. We’re a place for students to learn about journalism. No matter your experience level, we want to hear from you.

3. Are there more ways I can contribute than just writing?

There’s a lot more to newspapers than writing stories, so we’re looking for students from all backgrounds to help in all areas. Here’s a list of some of the skills we’re looking for:

  • Photography
  • Videography
  • Graphic design
  • Coding and web development
  • Illustration

4. What’s the time commitment?

That’s up to you. You can write one story a semester, or an article a day. University is a busy time, so no matter how much you write, design, photograph, we’re happy you reached out.

5. Are you hiring?

We’ve finished our hiring for the 2020-2021 year, but applications for next year will be up in March 2021.
