Borrowed From The Boys

Do you ever find yourself wishing you could spend everyday in a sweat suit? If you’re anything like me, in traditional Queen’s fashion I never put style over comfort, which is why I love the ” I borrowed it from my boyfriend” look. If you’re looking for comfort when going to class or hitting up the library, this is your answer to achieving comfort, without sacrificing style. Whether you’re buying a boyfriend fit style or borrowing a piece from the real deal, the look is casual, relaxed and stylish.

Think oversized sweaters, baggy and low-rise jeans, heavy leather boots and oversized button downs when looking to wear this look. I scoped campus for some examples of Queen’s students rocking this style.

“I like being comfortable in class but I like wearing feminine things too. A skirt isn’t always practical, but a blouse gives me the look I want and the jeans are as comfortable as sweatpants!” -Kara Gunnarson (ArtSci ‘ 14)

“I live in my tricolour gear-what Queen’s student doesn’t? It’s cool that I can wear it as part of a fall trend.” -Caitlin Lochead (ArtSci ‘ 14)

If you’re shopping on a budget, scope out Giant Tiger in Kingston for some cozy and oversized knits. There is also Urban Trend on Princess St. which has a good selection of oversized sweaters. And the look doesn’t stop in the lecture halls; a boyfriend blazer worn with a fitted skirt and booties is perfect for a night out in Kingston.

Here are some ways you can achieve the look:

1. Boot

2. Chinos

3. Boyfriend Blazer

4. Army Jacket

5. Crewneck Sweater

6. Boyfriend Shirt

7. Denim Boyfriend Jeans

8. Watch

9. Cords

10. Varsity Jacket

Invest in a piece or two, play around with the look and say hello to the boyfriend fit, your new best friend.
