The University Exam Bank database has been revamped and released, and will be getting a new counterpart – a Syllabus Bank – later this fall.

Since 1999, the Exam Bank database has allowed students to browse old exams in their current courses to help them study and prepare for finals. Recent changes were made to Exam Bank in an effort to make it user-friendly for students.

Exam Bank is now available through the QSpace server, which grants exam services with quicker access to fix errors in the database. QSpace also houses past theses and dissertations in addition to exams, making the site more comprehensive.

“Because it is in QSpace, it gives students more flexibility to raise awareness of that institution or repository who are going to be doing their theses or dissertations and see what else is in their repository” Sandra Morden, Head of Discovery and Technology Services told The Journal.

The new Exam Bank now has mobile capabilities, a keyword search and the addition of professor names to the system. Faculties were also merged with the new Exam Bank, meaning Law exams will now be available on the same server as the rest of the exams.

For several years, the AMS has been developing a parallel system called Syllabus Bank.

Syllabus Bank will function just like Exam Bank but will host syllabi for many Queen’s classes. This follows a 2009 Senate Committee on Academic Procedures (SCAP) report that asked for all professors to submit the syllabi for their classes to build the database.

“It will operate exactly like Exam Bank, so it is going to be PDF files. It is important to note that it is only accessible if you have your Queen’s NetID, so that protects all the property rights and professors,” Victoria Lewarne, Commissioner of Academic Affairs, told The Journal.

After being in the works since 2008, Lewarne said the Syllabus Bank is set to become available in the next two weeks.

“Right now we are pretty limited to Arts and Science, but our goal is to move past that this year and start engaging with faculties like Engineering and Nursing – Commerce already has their own system,” Lawerne added.

The new Exam Bank is now available online.
