AMS Director of Clubs resigns three months into term

Last updated: Jul. 31 at 4:57 p.m.

In a July 21 email to all staff, Vice-President (University Affairs) Palmer Lockridge announced that Director of Clubs Emmy Vassos will be resigning from her position, effective July 31.

According to Lockridge’s statement, Vassos will be starting a Masters of Political Management program at Carleton University this fall, hence her early departure.

“Even in the short time this summer Emmy has contributed so much to the AMS and the Queen’s Clubs community and we would like to thank her for her hard work,” Lockridge wrote.

Lockridge will be taking over Emmy’s responsibilities until a new Director of Clubs is hired. Once hired, Vassos will help transition them into the role throughout the month of August.

In an email to The Journal, Vassos said it was an honour to be the Director of Clubs for the AMS. She thanked Lockridge, Brian MacKay, Vice President (Operations) and AMS President Jennifer Li for giving her the opportunity.

“Even though I will be moving on sooner than I anticipated or hoped, I have met so many passionate and caring people through this role, which has made my decision to leave Queen’s even harder,” she wrote. “Clubs are a vital part of campus life and I am confident that the Executive will hire a successor as Director of Clubs who will continue to foster and support their activities and contributions to the Queen’s community.”

The hiring process to fill Vassos role will begin in the coming days.

The Journal will update this article as information becomes available.
