AMS to donate $7,000 to Kingston food bank

In light of recent university closures, the AMS Food Bank will close on Mar. 20.

Recognizing that many members of the Queen’s community who rely on the Food Bank’s services remain in Kingston, the AMS will be donating $7,000 to the Kingston Partners in Mission Food Bank.

The AMS Foodbank is located in the JDUC, and provides confidential service to members of the Queen’s community. It operates based on donations and student fees from AMS and SGPS members.

“We understand the role the Food Bank plays in the lives of our students and the vulnerable populations who will be affected by this decision,” AMS Director of Communications Ananya Chakraborty wrote in an email to The Journal. “But given the parameters of the space the Food Bank occupies, this is the most responsible course of action to protect the health of volunteers, staff, and patrons.”
