Body found at Harkness International Hall

Second-year engineering student, Kevin Cournoyer, was found dead last night at Harkness International Hall.

Police were called to the residence at 8 p.m. Wednesday after being notified by an acquaintance of the victim, said Steven Koopman, Kingston Police media relations officer.

“We attended to confirm it as a sudden death,” he said.

Police left the scene around 1 p.m. today. Koopman said they aren’t treating the case as suspicious.

“It’s been assigned to our major crime detectives, which is usual for sudden deaths,” he said.

Koopman said an autopsy was performed this morning.

“[Because] it has been determined as not suspicious, any further information will have to come from the coroner’s office,” he said. “If it becomes a criminal investigation we will take over the case by way of a criminal search warrant, but we are not at that point nor we do anticipate it.”

The Journal will post updates as information becomes available.
