Signs requesting Kingston Collegiate and Vocational Institute (KCVI) students refrain from entering the JDUC were posted on Jan. 30.

The signs, posted on doors to the JDUC, indicated the request was “due to a high number of complaints regarding behaviour.”

The signs had no explicit author. After reaching out to the University, The Journal was redirected to the AMS.

“The letter was posted in response to numerous complaints from stakeholders and students in the building about KCVI students disrupting study space, making fun of visitors to the JDUC, and other behavioural issues over the last several years,” according to the statement the AMS gave The Journal.

The AMS told The Journal that repeated attempts had been made to address the high school students’ behavioural disturbances, and that the JDUC building manager and Campus Security are working to ensure students engaging in inappropriate behaviour leave.

“KCVI students were not banned from the JDUC,” the AMS statement clarified. Signs suggested KCVI students use the first and second floors of the Queen’s Centre to purchase and eat their lunch instead.

“Although most KCVI students are respectful of those around them, there are others who behave in a way that is inappropriate or contrary to University policy.”
