Perhaps this is where you’ll meet your future spouse, or maybe just start a casual fling to get you through the year. Whether you’re looking to settle down, or you’re single and ready to mingle, here are the top five first date spots that our beautiful town has to offer.

Sipps Coffee and Dessert Bar (33 Brock St.)

Located in the heart of downtown, the café offers a variety of treats and drinks for people of all tastes. There’s a lot you can tell about a date based on what their sweet tooth calls for and nothing lightens the mood more than getting a dish to share.

The relaxed vibe makes it the perfect place to meet up and get to know someone. It’s a bit of a walk, but the walk near the water is very romantic and anyone willing to go the extra mile is clearly a keeper.

The Brooklyn (14 Garrett St.)

The Brooklyn is Kingston’s premier craft beer institution. For people who really know their beer, or for those looking to learn more, the Brooklyn is definitely the place to go.

It’s a great place to try locally brewed beer and sit down for a pint or two. Another chilled-out vibe, the restaurant is chic, yet warm and perfect for cool patio nights. Looking for something more than drinks? The Brooklyn has pinball machines, live music and trivia nights on Sundays.

The Tea Room (45 Union St.)

Nothing is more attractive than Queen’s spirit. And nothing says Queen’s spirit like supporting our student-run stores and restaurants. The Tea Room, found in Beamish-Munroe Hall, is perfect for a date after class. The café hosts a variety of tea blends and other barista specialties, as well as sandwiches and baked goods to sip and nibble over a casual date. For those of us looking for a caffeine-fix or somewhere low-key to hang out, you’ll definitely want to go on a date here.

Common Ground (second floor of the Queen’s Centre)

Common Ground, or CoGro, has got something for everyone. From drinks, to sandwiches, to cakes, and more, it’s no wonder that CoGro is such a popular hangout. The people who come to the coffee shop are there to relax and have a good time.

CoGro also offers live music from time to time by local Queen’s artists. The laid back atmosphere makes it the perfect, no-pressure let’s-get-to-know-each-other spot.

Queen’s Pub (second floor of the JDUC)

Queen’s is all about tradition, and Queen’s Pub (QP) radiates with it. Located right in the middle of campus, QP has been a go-to spot for friendly mates and romantic dates since it opened in 1977. The student-run pub is known for its famous sangria and tasty dishes — all with budget prices.
