Mark Bomba named Queen’s new cross country Head Coach

After Steve Boyd was controversially dismissed back in February and pleas for his reinstatement were rejected, top runners left Queen’s due to the firing. Mark Bomba is Queen’s answer for those who stuck around.

Queen’s announced on Aug. 27 that Bomba would be the new Head Coach for Cross Country and Distance Track.

Former Gaels cross-country Head Coach Shane Lakins will be joining him as assistant coach.

Bomba has been coaching at various levels for 26 years and has worked with Olympic and World Champion level athletes. He was the Endurance/Post Collegiate coach for the Langley Mustangs Track and Field Club and formerly the Head Endurance Coordinator for Cross Country and Distance Track at Trinity Western University.

He is a seven-time Coach of the Year winner and a Canadian medalist.

As an athlete, he has been part of multiple Athletic Canada National Distance teams and two International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Cross-Country Championship teams (2001, 2003).
