Queen’s has announced the members of the advisory committee set to review the University’s Non-Academic Discipline system this fall.

According to The Queen’s Gazette, the Advisory Committee on Non-Academic Misconduct will discuss relevant concerns surrounding the safety, health and wellness of students. 

The committee will consult with stakeholders, including students, at the university. 

These consultations began during a session of AMS Assembly on Oct. 22, where student representatives voiced their concerns about the review to Principal Daniel Woolf and Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) Alan Harrison.

At the assembly, student leaders directed questions to Woolf and Harrison on issues surrounding first aid, peer-to-peer impact, student feedback and hazing.

Other than the AMS, the committee will consult Athletics and Recreation, Residences, the Senate Committee on Non-Academic Discipline (SONAD), Society of Graduate and Professional Students (SGPS) Council, the University Senate and the Board of Trustees.

Queen’s has stated that opportunities will be available for all external stakeholders to voice their concerns. According to The Queen’s Gazette, Woolf recognizes the “strongly held views on all sides”.

• Stephanie Simpson, Human Rights Office
• Harry Smith, University Ombudsman

Woolf will bring the committee’s recommended policies and procedures — including a “recommended student code of conduct”, according to The Gazette release — for approval from the Board of Trustees no later than May 2016.
