Queen’s has established a team to ensure sexual assault prevention objectives released earlier this summer are implemented.

The Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Working Group (SAPRWG) released a report in June providing 11 objectives for preventing and responding to sexual assault.  A draft version of a sexual assault policy was released by SAPRWG along with their report. 

The new nine-member team, which was assembled by Alan Harrison, provost and vice-principal (academic), had its first meeting on Monday. Harrison will also be the chair for the team.

The rest of the team is made up of two members of SAPRWG, three members of the SAPRWG policy subcommittee and three other University officials. 

Claire Gummo, the assistant director of the Sexual Health Resource Centre (SHRC), is the team’s only student representative. She was an original member of SAPRWG.

The team will be responsible for prioritizing recommendations, setting timelines and determining resource requirements based on the SAPRWG’s report.

The recommendations released in June included the establishment of an on-campus sexual assault centre and the creation of a comprehensive sexual assault policy.

The prioritized recommendations and policy will likely be brought to the University Senate at their first meeting for the fall term in September for approval.
