Dr. Teri Shearer has been appointed as the new deputy provost effective Jan. 1, 2016, following the resignation of Laeeque Daneshmend from the position.

Shearer is an associate professor at the Smith School of Business. She formerly served as the associate dean for the School of Business, and as chair of the school’s Faculty Board.

According to Queen’s website, the deputy provost works closely with the provost to support the operational and academic priorities of the University. The deputy provost also plays a role in overseeing academic appointments.

Shearer acted as chair of the Academic Appeals Committee from 2008 to 2012 and has been active on numerous other committees. She also represented the School of Business at Senate gatherings, and served as chair of the Senate Budget Review Committee and the Senate Committee on Academic Procedures in the past.

Dr. Shearer joined Queen’s in 1996 after completing her PhD at the University of Iowa. Her research focuses on “the social and behavioural consequences of accounting practices”, according to The Gazette.

Laeeque Daneshmend resigned from his position as deputy provost on Aug. 14. He will return to his position as a professor in the Robert M. Buchan Department of Mining in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science.
