The women’s volleyball team enjoyed a successful road weekend winning its matches against the Guelph Gryphons and the Waterloo Warriors.

On Friday night the Gaels lost their first set to Guelph handily, but were able to bounce back right away and take the following three sets (25-23, 26-24, 25-19) to take the match.

On Saturday they beat Waterloo in for another four set match win (25-22, 24-26, 25-15, 25-19). Colleen Ogilvie led the Gaels over the weekend with a total of 33 kills. Setter Anna Pedjase also had a big weekend with a total of 75 assists.

The two wins put the Gaels at a 5-2 record for the season and in a tie for third place position in the OUA. Next weekend the Gaels face off against Windsor and RMC at home.

The men’s volleyball team was on the road this past weekend, traveling to play the Guelph Gryphons on Friday night and continuing on to play the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday night.

The Gaels cruised past the eighth-place Gryphons (1-4), winning the game in three straight sets.

The game against the Waterloo (5-0) was a much harder test. The Gaels lost 3-1 against the Warriors, who are tied for first in the OUA.

Third-year outside hitter Philippe Goyer posted a total of 26.5 points for the Gaels this past weekend. He is now tied for first place in the OUA with 85 points on the season, while second-year hitter Mike Tomlinson is one back with 84.

Setter Jackson Dakin tallied 31 assists in both games.

With the weekend split, the Gaels (4-2) move into third place in the OUA.

The team is now preparing for a three-game home stint to close off the pre-holiday portion of their season.

Their next match is against the ninth-place Windsor Lancers (1-3) this afternoon at the ARC.
