Team Sagal & Alissa elected ASUS executive 2018-19

After being disqualified, reinstated and put on a temporary campaign blackout, Team Sagal & Alissa has been elected the 2018-19 ASUS executive team. When they take office on May 1, they’ll be the first all-female ASUS executive in at least 17 years.

“To be a female of colour and to be the President of ASUS … is really cool and really exciting and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity,” ASUS President-elect Sagal Sharma told The Journal following the results.

“This wasn’t a night I ever dreamt of if you’d asked me in first year, or second year, or even the beginning of third year,” Sharma continued.“I am so incredibly proud of Alissa for helping in this journey with me and agreeing to run with me.”

At the time this article was written, the exact voter turnout and breakdown of the ASUS ballot hadn’t been released.

“[I’m] so proud of Sagal and the resilience she’s shown through all of this. I think we both learned from one another a lot,” Vice-President-elect Alissa Enns added.

Team Sagal & Alissa ran on a platform of five pillars: professional development, academic advocacy, change management, ASUS unification and equity, as well as diversity and inclusion.

After being notified of their loss, Team Harmz & Gurj said their campaign was still valuable in that it “enlightened [them] on the issues that are prominent within ASUS government.”

“I hope Sagal and Alissa invest their certificate money into nap pods, because the people, the Queen’s students, everybody’s pupils in this community needs access to a nap pod,” Harmony Crawford added.

Team Eric & Dave were unavailable for comment at the time this article was published.
