The sounds of love

When it comes to Valentine’s Day, there are a lot of mixed emotions, but The Journal has come up with a list of songs guaranteed to get you excited about the big day.

Based on a wide variety of musical tastes, this list of songs will fit any style of lovin’. It’ll also go well with some (hopefully) marked-down Valentine’s chocolate.

Accessible indie

These few indie songs are perfect for lacing up each other’s Converse All Stars and stroking each other’s beards. Maybe it will even motivate an acoustic duet.

First Day of My Life” by Bright Eyes

Anyone Else But You” by The Moldy Peaches

I Went To The Store One Day” by Father John Misty

#Throwback

This classic song will call out your inner 80s side. Perhaps you and your significant other will be inspired to go to a drive-in movie for Valentine’s Day, or maybe even get couples’-perms. Every couple is different — no judgments.

Melt With You” by Modern English

Alt-Rock

Canadian alternative rock singer and songwriter Dallas Green is known for producing some pretty sad songs. However, “The Girl” is nothing but a happy, beautiful love testament. And anyways, a couple that cries to City and Colour together stays together.

The Girl” by City And Colour

Cheesy love song

“Love is Easy” and so is listening to this song. Although it may be cheesy, you can’t even pretend not to like this song — it’s just not possible.

Love is Easy” by McFly

Hip Hop

Forget about taking a chance on ABBA. Take a chance on Chance The Rapper this Valentine’s Day.

Interlude (That’s Love)” by Chance The Rapper

Jazz

According to our Assistant News Editor, Mikayla Wronko, if love had a sound, it would sound like this song. It’ll make you feel like you’re living a scene from The Notebook

La Vie En Rose“ by Louis Armstrong

And of course, a song for after your Valentine’s Day date…

Let’s Get It On” by Marvin Gaye
