The tenth anniversary of 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians'

Whether you love them or love to hate them, the Kardashians have been a part of most of our lives for the last 10 years.

Needless to say, we’ve witnessed a lot from this family throughout these years — there have so far been 13 seasons of Keeping Up with the Kardashians and countless spin-off accompaniment shows. Not all of the Kardashian moments have been good ones, but some have been so iconic that we’re still talking about them 10 years later.

Looking back on the countless episodes, here’s a sample of the most historic moments when the Kardashians took both steps forwards and backwards in the past decade. Buckle up, dolls, it’s about to be wild.

Step Forward: Kim’s ill timed selfie

Kris yelling at Kim for taking pictures of herself on the way to escorting Khloe to jail was the moment we knew this show was going to be hilarious and legendary. Even though Kim has grown up a lot since that moment, there’s no doubt 2007 Kim was the best version of herself. Sometimes when the lighting is just right, you have to take a selfie no matter the situation, okay mom?

Step Back: Khloe and Lamar’s divorce

Seeing Khloe very publicly deal with her divorce from Lamar Odom was upsetting. Our girl Khloe has gone through a lot of personal trauma over the years in the public eye, but to see her struggle through three seasons dealing with the end of her marriage with Lamar was heartbreaking. It really seemed like they were meant for each other, something they both believed as much as their fans did. Having to end a marriage with someone you still love must be awful, especially when it’s broadcasted worldwide.

Step Forward: Kim’s flip-out

A particularly hilarious Kardashian moment was when Kim lost her earrings in the ocean while Kourtney astutely commented on the bigger issues going on in the world. Ah, the good old days with Kim’s ex-husband Kris Humphries. Kidding — he was the actual worst, but without him, Kim wouldn’t have been thrown into the ocean in Bora Bora and Kourtney wouldn’t have delivered her iconic line “Kim, there are people that are dying.” Spoiler alert, Kim and Kris got a divorce and she found her earrings in the ocean — two points for
Kimmy K.

Step Back: Caitlyn’s book

Kris dealing with Caitlyn’s gender reassignment and the release of Caitlyn’s book The Secrets of My Life was certainly a turning point for the reality series. While Caitlyn’s very public transition is going to have an immeasurably positive effect on understanding the transgender community over time, Caitlyn’s approach with her family was a bit iffier. Writing a book repeatedly pointing the finger at Kris for every negative aspect of her life isn’t a good look, and seeing Kris’ devastation over it while she was already dealing with the loss of her husband was hard to watch.

Step Forward: Todd Kraines

There’s nothing I love more than a great practical joke. The Kardashians have pulled off quite a few over the years, but the Todd Kraines joke was hands down the best. Kourtney’s ex-boyfriend Scott would repeatedly call Kris claiming to be family friend Todd Kraines and ask her to go skiing in Vail and other strange requests. The absurdity of the prank and Kris’ candid reactions made us laugh almost as hard as pranksters Kourtney, Khloe and Kim.

Step Back: Paris robbery

Kim after the Paris robbery was a much different version of the reality star than the positive, logical Kim we know and love. Seeing the way a trauma like that affects someone who is typically so open about their life was hard to watch on the show. Kim’s emotions were real and raw, enough to even shut down filming at one point, and no one wants to see anyone hurt like that on or off screen.

This family has had its ups and downs over the years, and they’re not stopping anytime soon. Especially not with their mini Kardashian army on its way with three sisters allegedly pregnant.

Even if the golden years of Kim snapping pictures with her digital camera and Khloe being happily married to Lamar are over, we can’t even begin to imagine what’s in store for the next 10 years.

All we know is that it will be iconic.
