Undergraduate Trustee Tyler Macintyre resigned effective immediately Wednesday afternoon, two days after apologizing for his attendance at a Coronavirus-themed party on Saturday.

In Macintyre’s Monday apology on Facebook, he acknowledged his actions were “in poor taste,” while also condemning the stigma currently faced by the Chinese and Asian community.

In a press release announcing his resignation, the University wrote Macintyre expressed understanding and remorse for his actions.

“Queen’s remains committed to creating an inclusive environment where all members of our community feel welcome and supported,” the University wrote. “The University continues to make efforts to swiftly address behavior that is damaging to our students, staff, and faculty.” 

“The Coronavirus event directly went against the AMS’s values, and the values of our community, and we do not condone it or events like it,” the AMS wrote in a Wednesday statement. “We remain, as always, vehemently opposed to behavior that is discriminatory in any way.” 

The press release also urged students who have been affected by these events to reach out for support. 

An election to appoint the new undergraduate trustee will be held in March. Key dates can be found on the AMS website.
