As Kingston businesses get the green light to reopen under adjusted COVID-19 guidelines, the AMS said its on-campus services will be gradually reopening.

“[E]ach respective service will be updating the student body (via their socials),” the AMS wrote in a statement to The Journal. 

None of the services had shared reopening dates at the time of publication, though the earliest dates can be expected to follow Reading Week.

“[S]ome of the opening dates will be different due to different needs, and a lot of service staff are not physically in Kingston,” the AMS wrote. “There is not a specific date across all services.”

The provincial government let the province-wide state of emergency expire Feb. 9, while announcing the Kingston, Frontenac, and Lennox and Addington (KFL&A) region would be able to transition back to the green zone on Wednesday.

In an email to students, staff, and faculty on Feb. 8, Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) Mark Green said Queen’s will be “cautiously” easing restrictions and expanding on-campus operations in the coming days. Further information will be shared as different areas of campus are approved to reopen.

For example, the University has announced bookable individual study spaces will reopen  Feb. 11 at Stauffer Library and the Education Library. 

Campus dining halls are also reopening for in-person seating with safety protocols in place.

“I’d like to thank the Queen’s community again for your diligence in following public health measures and limiting your close contacts,” Green wrote. 

“Your actions have helped to keep cases low within the Queen’s and Kingston communities, which have directly impacted the province’s decision to ease restrictions in our region. Queen’s students should be especially proud of keeping cases low within the student population.”
