On a warm and sunny Saturday afternoon, the Gaels lost another tight match, this time against a visiting Carleton squad.

The undefeated Ravens, ranked fourth in the country, came to Tindall Field with some boisterous fans and a laser-like focus, and consequently owned possession and shot stats throughout the game.

Carleton scored the game’s lone goal at the 16-minute mark off the foot of Stefan Karajovanovic.

Afterwards, the Queen’s defence bent but didn’t break, with linchpins James Michaelis and Zachary Toupin both delivering solid performances. 

Carleton was relentless throughout the second half, peppering goaltender Alex Dimmock with difficult shots from all over the field. In one five-minute sequence, the Ravens hit the post twice and also forced Dimmock to make a leaping save.

Da Hyung Lee tallied all three of Queen’s shots on the day, but couldn’t manage to beat the Carleton keeper.

Besides their season opener, the Gaels haven’t lost a game by more than a goal. However, they’ve only scored one goal over their past five games. 

Five of their first seven games were against nationally-ranked opponents, but the back end of their schedule is much less challenging. 

Of the final seven games of their season, a rematch against Carleton represents the only game to be played against nationally-ranked opposition.

Sitting in seventh in the stacked OUA East at the midway mark of the season, Queen’s hopes their lopsided schedule will allow them to make a last-second push for the playoffs.
