So you’re thinking about getting a vibrator? A vibrator is an excellent way to explore your body and get in touch with your sexuality. But before you dive in, there are some things to think about: your preferred size, discretion level, toy texture, vibration pattern and use.

Types

Vibrators come in all shapes and sizes. From lipsticks to rubber duckies and eggs, there’s a wide variety to choose from. There are two main forms of vibrators: those intended for internal stimulation and external stimulation. Internal vibrators are designed to stimulate the clitoris, while external vibrators are geared towards the g-spot and/or prostate.

Some toys can even provide both; branched vibes provide simultaneous g-spot, clitoral and anal stimulation.

Use

Though most toys can be used with any number of people, some vibrators are designed explicitly for partner use. For example, Lelo’s TARA couple vibe, which provides clitoral and g-spot stimulation, is meant to be worn during penetrative sex.

Size

Everyone is different. You may like larger toys over smaller ones or vice versa. The smaller vibrators can be the length of a pinkie finger while dildos can be is 7.2” long and 1.75” wide. 

Cleaning

Owning a vibrator also means learning how to clean it. Proper cleaning practices vary from material to material. This could mean anything from classic soap and water to the top rack of your dishwasher. All toys come in different materials and need to be cleaned as such.
