Letter to the Editor: August 18th

Dear Editors,

I am the father of a student going into second year at Queen’s this fall.

I read that Queen’s has announced that it will require students to be vaccinated and that the school will open in September for in-person classes. The news release did not say how Queen’s will confirm that those who come to school are vaccinated.

It is vital that Queen’s require students to show proof of vaccination. Queen’s must make sure that the school population is healthy. It will be wrong if the actions of a few jeopardize the enjoyment of many.

Like many parents, my wife and I are prepared to spend many thousands of dollars to give our child a good education at Queen’s.

So far, because of the pandemic, our son’s experience at Queen’s has not been very enjoyable. If the COVID virus forces Queen’s to shut in-person learning this fall, it will be the university’s own fault for not being strict enough to make sure that students, staff and faculty on the campus are healthy.

Best wishes,

Peter Kuitenbrouwer
