The motion for a climate emergency declaration took centre stage at Tuesday night’s city council meeting, but council also discussed reports and briefings regarding other ongoing city concerns.

Council unanimously approved free transit for all passengers for the opening day event of the Frontenac Main Branch Library. The opening will take place on Mar. 23.

At the request of the Epilepsy South Eastern Ontario Organization, council voted to proclaim Mar. 26 “Purple Day for Epilepsy Awareness” in Kingston. 

Council also heard a report on Tall and Mid-Rise buildings from Paige Agnew, director of planning, building, and licensing for the City. The report outlined the scope of work being undertaken on the City’s mid-rise building policy.

Councillor Peter Stroud, representing the Sydenham district, announced the submission of a petition supporting the closure of the Gord Downie Pier at night.  The handwritten petition collected around 300 signatures.
