QJSex: Sexy times for Valentine's

Valentine’s Day, the official holiday of romantic love and sexy rumpus, is finally here. If you’re racking your brain to come up with a sexy gift for your significant other(s), then continue reading as we profile a few different products that we carry that are specifically designed for couple play.

Body paints and massage products
These products can add a sensual, intimate twist to your night. Body paints can be a tasty new addition to oral play, and can be great if you’re looking for a way to tease your partner(s) and draw out the oral experience. Most of our massage oils are also edible. However, be careful to use body paints and massage products externally only – the sugars can cause infections if they get inside genitalia, and anything oil-based will degrade latex condoms.

Body paint comes in several different varieties:
• Karma Sutra “Lover’s Body Paints” come in little pots with a paintbrush for applying. They are available in caramel, dark chocolate raspberry, and milk chocolate. Cost: $8.25 each.
• “Play Pens” are edible body paints in an easy-to-dispense pen to reduce mess. Comes in green apple, cherry, strawberry, and grape. Cost: $7.50 for a pack of four flavours.

Our massage products include:
• Our “Flame of Love” candles are low heat aromatherapy candles that melt to massage oils. Flavours include spicy, vanilla, and tropical. Cost: $8.75 each.
• Our massage bars are flavoured cocoa butter bars that melt into massage oil with body heat. Available in mint, strawberry, chocolate mandarin, watermelon, provence and aphrodisia blend. Cost: $6.25 each.
• “Contour M” massage stones are ceramic stones that can be heated or cooled before use. Cost: $19.00 each.
JO Warming Lubricant is a silicone warming lubricant that doubles as a long-lasting massage oil. Safe for internal use and use with condoms as well (but avoid using this lubricant with silicone toys). Cost: $12.50 for 2.5oz bottle.

Restraints
Even if you consider yourself to be 100 per cent vanilla (not kinky), restraints can be another great way to add an element of teasing to foreplay. You need not be dominant to tie your partner up, and you need not be a submissive to be tied up. At the SHRC, we sell safe restraints that are specifically designed to ensure that they will not tighten or pinch and cut off your circulation (and you’d be surprised just how much you may not notice that in the heat of things). The restraints we carry are:
• The Under-The-Bed Restraint Kit: designed to attach under a mattress – no bed frame needed. Cost: $35.25 each kit.
• Trick Belt: this high-quality leather belt easily transforms into wrist or ankle restraints, and the middle loop can be used to attach to furniture as well (or to restrain both the wrists and ankles). Pro tip: you can really surprise your partner(s) by wearing it to your rendezvous and introducing it to your play as you undress. Cost: $28.00 each.

Strap-ons
A strap-on allows for someone to wear a dildo in order to penetrate their partner hands-free. While popular media tends to portray this product as being “for lesbians”, the vast majority of strap-ons sold are actually for heterosexual couples to try pegging (when a female penetrates their male partner’s anus with a strap-on). Remember to always use plenty of lubricant if penetrating your partner anally, and not to use silicone lube with silicone toys. Clean up can be made a bit easier if you put a non-lubricated condom on the dildo beforehand. We sell two strap-ons at the SHRC:
• The Tantus Harness Kit includes a harness, a silicone dildo and a vibe to stimulate the person wearing the harness. The dildo can be replaced with any other toy with a flared base. Cost: $44.00 each kit.
• The Share is a silicone strapless strap-on, meant to be inserted vaginally and held in place by the vaginal muscles. Cost: $63.75 each.

We Vibe
The We Vibe is designed to be worn inside a vagina while leaving room to also be penetrated vaginally, with one end stimulating the G-spot and the other protruding and stimulating the clitoris. It is specifically designed for heterosexual couples for use in penetrative intercourse, with the different vibrations providing stimulation to the penis as well. The SHRC sells the We Vibe 2 for $62.00. The We Vibe 2 does need to be charged before use (recommended for 24 hours the first time charging), so you can’t just pick up on your way home and put it to use!

Yoni
The Yoni turns your body into a sex toy. This toy uses velcro to attach its battery pack and controls to your wrist, and a vibrator to your finger – effectively turning your body into a sex toy to use on your partner(s) for manual stimulation. Includes 2 AAA batteries. Cost: $16.25 each.

Any sex toy that can be used solo can also be incorporated into couple play, but these toys are specifically designed to be shared. If you are concerned about STIs it is recommended that you cover your sex toy in a condom or glove and wash the sex toy and/or change the condom/glove in between using it on more than one person. General instructions for sex toy care can be found on our website.

This list is by no means extensive – use your imagination! Your brain is probably the best and most powerful sex toy that you have, and don’t feel guilted into buying a gift if you don’t want to – after all, some the sexiest gifts that you can give your partner(s) are your time and respect. And if you won’t be sharing Valentine’s Day with a partner, you can love yourself with the products on our shelves.

Sex, valentine's day
