Queen’s announced it’s postponing another round of in-person convocations this spring in an email to graduating students Monday afternoon.

“Unfortunately, and as a consequence of the ongoing pandemic and the knowledge that public health restrictions will continue for some months yet, we have made the decision to postpone in-person spring 2021 convocation ceremonies,” Deane wrote in the email. 

“The university and faculties and schools are planning to mark your graduation—details will be communicated in the coming weeks as they are finalized.”

Students who have applied to graduate and completed their program requirements will graduate and receive their degree in the mail.

“I recognize this is a disappointment for our spring 2021 graduates, as it has been for everyone who graduated in 2020. It is disappointing for the university as well, as convocation is a highlight for the entire campus community.”

Deane assured students the University is “committed” to holding in-person ceremonies when it becomes safe for people to begin gathering again.

“I appreciate that your Queen’s experience over the last year may not have been what you were expecting—it is not what any of us were expecting for you,” Deane wrote. “Still, you will graduate soon, and we look forward to celebrating your achievements and welcoming you into the Queen’s alumni family.”
