Varsity Sports

Football

The Men’s Football team achieved a hard-won victory against the Carleton Ravens on Sunday, handily beating the Ottawa-based squad 18-6. Coming off their first win against the Ravens since 2015, the Gaels will be looking to bolster their confidence even further by taking out the uOttawa Gee-Gees this weekend at home on Sept. 25.

Rugby

The Men’s Rugby squad had a commanding first outing this past weekend as they routed the Guelph Gryphons 33-12 in their one and only exhibition match ahead of the start of the regular season. Playing visitor to the University of Toronto (UofT) Varsity Blues this Sunday, they’ll hope to kick off what could be their fourth straight undefeated regular season and OUA championship title.

The Women’s rugby team also came away with a victory against Guelph in an exhibition fixture over the weekend, beating the Gryphons 17-13. Facing the Brock Badgers this Saturday for their regular season kick-off, they’re also hoping to follow up on an undefeated regular season and OUA title.

Soccer

The Women’s Soccer team came away victorious in their exhibition game against the X University Rams on Sept. 19. Handing the team a decisive 2-0 defeat, the Gaels are looking to keep their momentum heading into their season opener this Friday, one part of a double-header series against Carleton—the second game of which will take place at Queen’s on Sunday.

The Men’s Soccer team also travelled to Toronto over the weekend, facing the UofT Varsity Blues on their home turf. The Gaels fared admirably, coming away with a 0-0 tie, and will hope to keep their lossless streak going as they also face the Carleton Ravens in a double header starting this Friday—with the Gaels taking home-field advantage on Sunday.

Varsity Clubs

Lacrosse

The Men’s Lacrosse team opened their regular season with a loss against Bishop’s University, falling 7-16 to Sherbrooke’s Alligators in Kingston on Sept. 18. Hoping to take their record to an even 1-1, they will travel to the nation’s capital this weekend to face the uOttawa Gee-Gees on Sept. 25.

The Women’s Lacrosse team started off their season on a high, slighting the UofT Varsity Blues 20-3 on Queen’s own Tindall Field on Sept 18. This Saturday, they’ll face the Trent Excalibur in Peterborough for the visiting half of their quadruple-header against Trent, the latter two games of which will take place at Queen’s on Oct. 9.

Baseball

The Queen’s Baseball team started off their season 2-2 over the weekend. They faced the Carleton Ravens in a four-game series—two games held in Ottawa, two in Kingston. The Gaels won and lost a game apiece in each locale and hope to improve on their record as they head West this weekend to face the UofT Varsity Blues in another four-game series starting on Sept. 25.

Fastpitch

Queen’s own fastpitch softball team had a busy start to their season—the team played both the UofT Varsity Blues and York Lions twice over the weekend. Falling in both games to UofT, the Gaels were able to make up for their losses by sweeping York in both outings on Sunday. This weekend, Queen’s will face both the Carleton Ravens and the X University Rams, the latter series of which will take place at home on Sept. 26.
