After opening to its tenants last September, the Yellow House’s official opening has been delayed until this fall.

In a written statement to The Journal, Teri Shearer, deputy provost (Academic Operations and Inclusion), said the University has been unable to hire a Director for the house, pushing the public open house date to next September.

All four tenants of the Yellow House gained access in September, according to Shearer. Tenants include the Queen’s University Muslim Students Association, the Levana Gender Advocacy Centre, the African and Caribbean Students’ Association, and the Queen’s Black Academic Society. The groups were selected by the University Council on Anti-Racism and Equity (UCARE) sub-committee in March 2019.

“[The four clubs] have been moving all their belongings in [since September], and at their own pace,” Shearer said.

According to Shearer, the final group will move in on Feb. 18. Shortly after, an open house is planned for Feb. 27. The open house “is for students, student clubs and campus community members who have been involved to date with the opening of the house,” according to Shearer.

Shearer told The Journal that she is in the process of re-posting the Director position. In the meantime, a full-time staff member was hired in November for the Yellow House.
